Governor Spitzer Begins Plans for Universal Health Insurance in New York
Governor Eliot Spitzer and Lieutenant Governor David Paterson have taken the first step towards universal
health insurance for the state of New York. On July 11th, Spitzer and Paterson directed the NY Insurance Superintendent and the Health Commissioner to begin creating a comprehensive strategy to achieve this goal.
Spitzer asserted that the plan will incorporate some features utilized by other states but will be designed to meet the needs of New York's uninsured population and health care challenges. Ideally, the plan would reduce the overwhelming health expenses burdening many New York residents. For more information, read the full press release at the New York state web site.
